The Workshop Press Company is a leading supplier of hydraulic and mechanical press machines. We’re proud to certify that our C-frame hydraulic presses deliver consistent quality performance, even with the toughest of metal-forming and assembly applications. Typically, we design our presses to take up less floor space than other metalworking machinery. At the same time, providing minimal stroke deflection. At Workshop Press, we’ve put together a short c-frame press buying guide so that you’re up to date with the aspects you should consider when buying one of these machines.

A C-frame press is open on three sides so it can easily handle a variety of material sizes and shapes. These press types can be fitted with different tooling for bending, punching, cutting or straightening applications.

Just like other hydraulic presses, C-frame presses are extremely versatile and can be used for many applications. These include punching, blanking, coining, straightening, forming, bending, drawing and assembly work. This also means they are suitable for a range of industries.

Press Designs

There are many different designs that sit under the C-frame title. However, the general design consists of a steel framework, hydraulic cylinder, and upper and lower tables. These are otherwise known as the slide table and the bolster table respectively. The frame of the press is made from steel S355JR because of its favourable characteristics and strength. As a result, this makes them suitable for stamping applications, providing minimal deflection.

We can fit our presses with dies to suit your applications. A die is a press tool that has a specially designed cavity, which is used to shape metal parts from the inserted sheet metal. This process is called stamping. The upper component of the die connects to the press slide, and the lower component to the press bed or the bolster. Stamped parts from hydraulic C-frame press machines are formed using a variety of sheet metal materials. The materials include copper, titanium, stainless steel, and aluminum. The ram then pushes the sheet metal through the die creating the required shape.

Typically, a C-frame press operation can be operated manually or automatically. This makes them suitable for short run or volume production.
